Full Biography
Layering the orchestral textures of a small chamber ensemble with the wistful vocals and gentle, finger-picked guitar of its leader Thomas Thoreau, New Orleans’ own Indie Folk Orchestra is helping to carve a niche occupied by few other artists in the region.
The roots of Thomas Thoreau & The Indie Folk Orchestra can be traced to Thoreau’s classical training in music composition, for which he received his Bachelors in Music in 2016. This, combined with his experience as a film composer, instilled a desire to bring this knowledge of cultivating moods through music to the American Folk tradition.
During the production of his debut record, Sink Nor Swim, the songwriter came into contact with many instrumentalists who would later become the IFO. The desire to recreate the record live, despite its large and varied orchestration, fuels the ever-growing ensemble.
